India's HCLTech and Anthropic have signed what they call a Global Premier Partnership to scale enterprise agentic AI, announced on October 12, 2026 in Noida. HCLTech, described by Reuters as India's third-largest IT services firm, will create a dedicated Anthropic Business Unit and build Claude, Cowork and Claude Code into its services and products. The financial terms were not disclosed, and nothing in the announcement attributes any revenue to it yet.

What the partnership includes

According to coverage of the joint announcement, the deal has five parts.

  • A dedicated Anthropic Business Unit and a Center of Excellence that builds agentic AI solutions and offers secure sandbox environments for enterprise Claude deployments, staffed by forward-deployed engineers.
  • Industry solutions from HCLTech's services teams built on Claude, Cowork and Claude Code.
  • Workforce help: AI-native engineering practices and training so clients can operate agentic AI safely at scale.
  • HCLSoftware becoming an Anthropic independent software vendor partner, embedding Claude in products in cybersecurity, automation, business process applications and application development. HCL BigFix and HCL AppScan are named, and the announcement also references Actian AI analyst.
  • Claude and Claude Code integrated into HCLTech's AI Force platform for IT support, code remediation and digital employee services, with policy guardrails, exception handling and human oversight for high-impact changes.

The numbers in the same news cycle

HCLTech reported its second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on the same day, according to CRN Asia. For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, revenue was $3.7 billion, up 2.2 percent year on year in US dollars, and new deal bookings were $3.3 billion, up 27 percent. EBIT margin was 18.2 percent. The company revised its fiscal 2027 guidance to revenue growth of 2.5 to 4 percent in constant currency.

Advanced AI revenue was $219 million, up 28.4 percent on the previous quarter and 78 percent year on year in constant currency, or $876 million annualized. That is the number that makes the partnership interesting, and also the number to be careful with. The coverage does not tie any of it to Anthropic, and the partnership was signed the same day. It is a context figure, not a result of the deal.

Why the structure matters

A frontier lab selling through a services giant is a distribution strategy. HCLTech manages critical systems for clients in banking, healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing, Anthropic's Daniela Amodei said, and "AI can only be as useful as it is trustworthy". The pitch is governed deployment: sandboxes, guardrails and human oversight, rather than raw model access.

“Few technology companies combine the scale of a global systems integrator with the product depth of an ISV”

C Vijayakumar, CEO and managing director, HCLTech, announcement of October 12, 2026

For HCLTech, the logic is also defensive. C Vijayakumar said the company's mix of global systems integration and software products "gives us a rare advantage to securely engineer and deploy Agentic AI at scale". That is the line an IT services firm needs to sustain, since agents that write and fix code compete directly with the labor it sells. Embedding Claude in its own platform is a way to be the one capturing that shift.

For Anthropic, the structure follows a pattern we have reported before: deploying engineers into enterprises and building partner channels, as in Claude Frontier Academy and its 10,000 deployed engineers. A services partner gives it reach into regulated industries without building the integration workforce itself.

What the announcement does not say

It does not say how many HCLTech staff will be trained, how many clients are committed, when the HCLSoftware integrations ship or what pricing applies. Coverage notes that no release schedule, pricing or specific features have been disclosed, so the product integrations are a direction, not confirmed availability. We opened the joint announcement as republished by several outlets and the Reuters report; we found no independent reporting on terms.

We covered the different ways Anthropic and OpenAI count revenue, and partner-channel revenue will be counted by someone, in some way, before it can be compared.

How big is AI inside HCLTech

Put the two numbers side by side. Advanced AI revenue of $219 million sits against total quarterly revenue of $3.7 billion, which is about 5.9 percent of the total. It is growing at 78 percent year on year in constant currency while total revenue grew 2.2 percent in US dollars. That gap is the strategic story: AI is a small slice that is growing fast, inside a business whose guidance for the full fiscal year is revenue growth of 2.5 to 4 percent in constant currency, with services at 3 to 4 percent, and an EBIT margin of 17.5 to 18.5 percent.

CRN Asia also lists three AI engagements from the quarter: a US-based AI-native company choosing HCLTech as a strategic partner for its AI Factory, a US-based neocloud provider building AI-native architecture and infrastructure with it, and a Europe-based manufacturer using its VisionX visual inspection platform for quality assurance. None is named, and none is described as Claude-based.

What Anthropic gets

For Anthropic the visible gain is access. HCLTech says it will staff the Center of Excellence with forward-deployed engineers, the same model Anthropic uses to put engineers inside customers. Pairing with a firm that already runs critical systems in banking, healthcare, telecom and manufacturing puts Claude inside regulated environments where trust, audit trails and human sign-off are procurement requirements. That is a channel advantage, and the announcement's emphasis on sandboxes and guardrails shows which objections it expects to meet.

Our take

This is a sensible, unglamorous distribution deal, and the most honest way to read it is as a bet by both sides on governed deployment. The $219 million advanced AI figure shows HCLTech has real AI demand; the partnership does not yet show how much of it Claude will capture. We would watch for named client deployments, the first HCLSoftware release with Claude inside, and HCLTech's next quarterly report to see whether advanced AI revenue keeps growing at a similar rate after the Anthropic unit is staffed.
